What is PLS?
Project Lifesaver (PLS) is a non-profit organization who is partnered with LoJack in providing a locating system to find persons who have a tendency to wander and become lost.
PLS is a program of pro-active involvement and specialized rescue
operations where trained personnel respond to incidents involving persons with autism, Alzheimer’s, Down syndrome and other related brain disorders. These individuals have a tendency to wander and may experience difficulty finding their way back home.
This program has cut the costs of searching for frequent wanderers and ultimately recover the lost participant within a short period of time. Currently there have been over 2,000 search and rescues nationwide, with 100% recovery rate with an average recovery time of 30 minutes!
The LoJack tracking receiver has a ground range of up to one mile. Using the receiver in a helicopter increases the range to approximately 5-7 miles.

How does PLS Work?
PLS uses radio frequency transmitters and receivers to locate and rescue persons within the program.
Those at risk wear a small transmitter which emits a silent radio signal every second.
Once a caretaker or family member realizes their loved one has wandered off, they contact 911. Project Lifesaver’s trained personnel are dispatched to the location last seen. At that time they begin their search by programming the LoJack receivers with the participants transmitter number.
Search times have been reduced dramatically from days to only minutes!
